IMAP stands for Internet Message Access Protocol. It is one of the two main ways an email app reads your messages. With IMAP, the mail stays on the server and your devices show a live view of it. Read a message on your phone, and it shows as read on your laptop too. It is like a shared notebook in the cloud that everyone looks at, rather than separate copies.<\/p>

Most small business owners check email on more than one device, often a phone during the day and a computer at night. IMAP keeps everything consistent, including folders and sent mail.
