For hosting, that usually means a minimum uptime percentage, how quickly support will respond, and how fast failed hardware will be replaced. It also explains what you get if they miss those targets, usually a credit on your bill. Think of it as the warranty card that comes with a service.

Why It Matters for Your Business

An SLA turns marketing claims into something you can hold a provider to. If your online store depends on being available, the difference between a strong SLA and none at all matters. A business that loses a day of sales during an outage can at least claim the promised credit and has clear grounds to switch providers if outages keep happening.

Good to Know

Read what the SLA excludes, not just what it promises. Scheduled maintenance, problems caused by your own code, and attacks are often left out. Credits are usually small compared with your actual losses and must be requested within a deadline. Treat the SLA as a sign of how seriously a provider takes reliability, not as insurance.

Related terms

UptimeSupport ticketManaged hostingData centerWeb hosting

← PreviousSitemapNext →SMTP

Want hosting handled?

Fast, secure WordPress hosting with updates, backups and monitoring taken care of.
See WordPress hosting

More in Hosting & Performance

Web hostingShared hostingVPSDedicated serverCloud hostingManaged hostingManaged WordPress hostingControl panel

Learn / Glossary / Hosting & Performance SLA (Service Level Agreement) In one sentenceAn SLA is a written promise from a hosting or service provider spelling out the service level you can expect, such as uptime and support response times.
