Backup Explained.

In one sentenceA backup is a saved copy of your website’s files and database that you can use to restore the site if something breaks, gets hacked, or is deleted.

What It Is

A backup is a complete copy of your website kept somewhere safe. For a WordPress site it has two parts: the files (themes, plugins, images and settings) and the database (your pages, posts, products and form entries). It works like keeping a photocopy of important papers in a fireproof safe. If the original is lost, you still have a recent version to work from.

Why It Matters for Your Business

Websites break for many reasons: a bad update, a hacked plugin, an accidental deletion, or a server failure. A good backup turns a disaster into an inconvenience. Imagine a photographer whose portfolio site gets infected the week before wedding season. With last night’s backup, the site is back in an hour. Without one, it might mean rebuilding everything from scratch.

Good to Know

Follow a simple rule: keep several copies, in more than one place, with at least one stored away from your web server. Backups saved only on the same server can disappear in the same incident. Check how often backups run and how long they are kept. Most important, test a restore occasionally, because a backup you have never tried is only a hope.
