What It Is
URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator. It is the complete address of one specific page, image or file on the web. A URL usually includes the protocol (https://), the domain name (yourbusiness.com) and a path to the page (/services/roof-repair). If your domain is the building address, the full URL is the address plus the floor and room number.
Why It Matters for Your Business
Clear URLs help both people and search engines understand what a page is about. A contractor’s page at yourbusiness.com/roof-repair is easier to share, remember and trust than one ending in a string of numbers. Short, descriptive URLs also look better in Google results and text messages.
Good to Know
Once a page is live and getting visitors, avoid changing its URL. If you must, set up a redirect from the old address to the new one, or anyone with the old link, including Google, will land on an error page. Keep URLs lowercase and use hyphens between words.
