Google Search Console Explained.

In one sentenceGoogle Search Console is a free Google tool that shows how your site performs in Google Search and alerts you to indexing, speed and security problems.

What It Is

Google Search Console is a free dashboard from Google that shows your website from Google’s point of view. It reports which searches your site appears for, how many times it was shown, how many people clicked and your average position. It also lists pages Google could not index, Core Web Vitals and HTTPS problems, security issues and manual actions (penalties). You verify ownership of your site to use it.

Why It Matters for Your Business

Where Google Analytics shows what visitors do on your site, Search Console shows how people find you in search before they arrive. A bakery might discover it already appears for "custom birthday cakes" but rarely gets clicked, a sign that the page title needs work. Or it may learn that a new menu page was never indexed.

Good to Know

Tip: add your site to Search Console as soon as it launches, submit your XML sitemap and check the Pages and Performance reports monthly. Turn on email alerts so you hear about serious problems quickly. After a redesign or migration, watch it closely for a few weeks to catch broken pages early.
