Dedicated Server Explained.

In one sentenceA dedicated server is an entire physical server rented to one customer, so all of its power, memory and storage serve only that customer’s websites or applications.

What It Is

With a dedicated server, you rent a whole physical machine in a data center, and no one else uses it. It is like owning a standalone house instead of renting an apartment or townhouse. You decide how it is set up, what software runs on it, and how its resources are used. The hosting company provides the building, power, cooling and network connection.

Why It Matters for Your Business

Dedicated servers suit businesses with heavy traffic, large online stores, custom applications, or strict security and compliance needs. A regional chain running bookings, payments and a customer portal across several locations may need that power and control. For most small businesses with a typical website, though, a dedicated server is more than they need.

Good to Know

A dedicated server is only as good as the people looking after it. Someone must handle updates, security, backups and monitoring. If you do not have that expertise in-house, choose a managed dedicated server, where the host’s team takes care of the server for you. Also ask how quickly failed hardware is replaced, and whether that promise is in the SLA.
