What It Is
The admin dashboard is the back office of your website. After logging in, you see menus for pages, posts, media, appearance, plugins, users and settings, plus notices about available updates. In WordPress, it is usually reached by adding /wp-admin to your site address. If your public website is the storefront, the dashboard is the locked office behind the counter where the business actually gets run.
Why It Matters for Your Business
This is where a small business owner handles day-to-day changes: updating hours, adding a new testimonial, approving blog comments or reviewing form entries. It is also where important warnings appear, like plugins that need updates. Because anyone who gets into the dashboard can change or damage the site, protecting that login matters as much as locking your physical shop.
Good to Know
Use a strong, unique password and turn on two-factor authentication for every administrator. Give staff and contractors their own accounts with only the access they need, rather than sharing one login. If something in the dashboard looks unfamiliar, such as a new administrator account you did not create, treat it as a possible security problem and get help quickly.
