Permalink Explained.

In one sentenceA permalink is the permanent web address of a specific page or post, such as yoursite.com/kitchen-remodeling, meant to stay the same over time.

What It Is

A permalink, short for permanent link, is the lasting address of an individual page or post on your website. For example, yoursite.com/kitchen-remodeling is a permalink to a service page. In WordPress, you choose an overall structure under Settings, then Permalinks, and you can edit the last part (often called the slug) for each page. Think of it as a street address for each room in your house.

Why It Matters for Your Business

Clean permalinks help people and search engines understand a page before they click. A link like yoursite.com/haircuts-for-kids is clearer and more trustworthy than one full of numbers and question marks. Because other sites, Google results and your own social posts point to these addresses, keeping them stable protects the visibility you have built over time.

Good to Know

Set your permalink structure early, ideally before launch. The "Post name" setting is a common, simple choice. If you later change a page’s address, add a redirect from the old address to the new one so visitors and search engines are not sent to an error page. Short, descriptive, lowercase words with hyphens work best.
