What It Is
A widget is a small feature box you can place in a set area of your website, usually a sidebar or footer. Examples include a search bar, a list of recent blog posts, your business hours, social media links or an embedded map. In WordPress, many themes have widget areas you manage from the dashboard. It is like a bulletin board with set spots where you can pin notices.
Why It Matters for Your Business
Widgets are an easy way to show useful information on many pages at once. A contractor might place a "Request a quote" button and service area list in the footer so it appears everywhere. Change it once and it updates across the whole site. Outside tools also use the word: a booking widget or chat widget is a small embedded piece from another service.
Good to Know
Do not let sidebars and footers become a junk drawer of every widget available. Keep only what helps visitors take action or find information. Note that newer WordPress block themes handle headers and footers through the Site Editor instead of classic widget areas, so where you edit them depends on your theme.
