What It Is
Information architecture, sometimes shortened to IA, is the structure behind a website’s content. It decides which pages exist, how they are grouped, what they are called and how they link to each other. Think of a well-organized grocery store: items are grouped in aisles with clear signs, so you find pasta without asking anyone.
Why It Matters for Your Business
When information architecture is weak, visitors get lost and leave. A contractor who lists every service on one long page, or hides prices under "Resources," makes people work too hard. Grouping services clearly, using words customers actually use and linking related pages helps visitors and also helps search engines understand the site.
Good to Know
Use your customers’ language for labels. A visitor looks for "Prices" or "Rates," not "Investment." If you would not say the word on the phone, do not put it in your menu. Simple, familiar words help visitors scan faster and also match what people type into Google.
